“The Bali Hope Swimrun is so much more than a race. It’s a 5-day event to bring together a group of strangers and bond over a single mission: to help a community save their island from plastic pollution. Each of us was moved and forever changed in our own way, and connected thanks to the amazing experience we shared”
Lezlea Talbot, 2018 Bali Hope Swimrun Team

Accommodation & Hospitality
As you can see in the images below all the accommodation options are excellent. All team meals on Lembongan will be at Sandy Bay Beach Club except the Celebration Dinner which will take place at a luxury beach side villa.
Our 2019 Swimrun will be the second year we have partnered with the award winning charity Bali Children Foundation and their local partner Friends of Lembongan to support the small community on this beautiful island.
Our fundraising campaign will help finance both a recycling infrastructure and an education campaign to support and educate young people. Together these two grass root initiatives will make a profound difference to the community on this island and develop a model of sustainability that can be emulated elsewhere.
As a group we have the ambitious target of raising US$100,000. This amount would be transformative in terms of the community’s capacity to protect the island’s future.
While we don’t penalise you if you fall short of your target, and some team members will raise more than others, we do ask for a strong commitment to meeting this objective and request that you are at least 50% of the way towards meeting the target by October 1st 2019.
The inspiration provided by the Otillo Swimrun world champion Annika Ericsson and elite triathletes Andy Wibowo and Inge Prasetyo, amongst others, brings a new level of energy to this unique and intimate endurance event. The access and time all teams have with each other creates an exceptionally supportive family atmosphere and a brilliant 5 days.
The small tropical islands of Lembongan and Ceningan provide a stunning backdrop to this unique swimrun event. The fact that we are fundraising to help protect the local environment from plastic pollution ensures the entire local community is behind us all the way and this adds a magical element to the event.
all inclusive luxury
We take pride in making sure our participants have the best available accommodation and hospitality and in Lembongan that means high-end villas with private pools, all inclusive access to the best beach club on the island, including all meals and drinks. As we strive through the challenge of the race and our fundraising campaign together delivering an unforgettable experience for you and our team is our primary objective.
The tropical islands of Lembongan and Ceningan present a stunning location for this unique sprint swimrun.
Crystal clear, aquamarine water, hill top views across the sea to Bali itself, our route combines 20km on foot with 3km of swimming.
Our 20 teams will traverse two islands, launch from a boat and run through the heart of the community we are helping to transform. The Bali Hope Swimrun, Southeast Asia’s first, is a challenging but accessible course, and one that in 2018 tested the Otillo World Champions and Indonesia’s leading Ironman competitors.
In 2019 we plan to again recruit a team that includes newcomers to endurance sport, experienced amateurs and leaders from the swimrun and triathlon communities,
Maximum water depth: 3m
Start Point: Off-shore from a catamaran

An experience you will never forget
Why is the event 5 days?
Bali Hope events are focussed around building communities of extraordinary people from around the world. 5 days allows us time and space to connect as a group, visit the community we are supporting and celebrate our achievement.
Many of our team members will travel to Bali from Europe or North America and it is important to have time to acclimatise.
Can I bring a partner and/or children?
Of course. Partners and children are most welcome. In 2018 on our ultra marathon we had 4 young people with us, including one young adult who joined our support crew. Witnessing a team of adults from around the world making change happen for a disadvantaged community can only be a positive experience for a young person.
Can I join the swimrun but not the rest of the week?
Unfortunately not. The integrity of our swimrun team, our shared experience and our itinerary means this is not possible.
What is your advice if I have never joining a SwimRun before?
The route is designed to be challenging but accessible for anyone with a decent level of fitness. We do recommend researching swimrun and the standard equipment required.
What level of support do you provide?
Participant safety on this ocean & road race is our key priority. With this in mind we have a highly-experienced health and safety director, emergency medical back-up, and trained first aiders in both fixed and mobile-aid stations.
What insurance do I need?
Every participant will need travel and medical insurance covering endurance sports.
What is your advice on fundraising?
Critical factors on successful fundraising include starting early to raise awareness of what you are doing, the impact it will make and the training commitment required, and then follow this up with personal messages to friends, family and your broader network.
We believe US$2,500 is very achievable and together we can make a real impact in helping to educate a new generation on this island and help the community to develop a recycling infrastructure that will protect their island.
Our charity partner also provides each team with personal support on their fundraising campaign.
