Detailed event schedule

– –

Wednesday 11 December

Meet at Sanur Bali before catching a private fast boat with transfers to Sandy bay, Lembongan

12:30 - 16:30

Meet your fellow participants at a team welcome lunch at Sandy Bay Beach Club.

In the afternoon we visit the community recycling centre and education programmes you have fundraised for. Meet the children whose lives you have helped to transform and witness the improvements being made to the recycling infrastructure that protects this island.

This is a great chance to share the impact made with the friends and family who will have supported your fundraising.

17:00 - 17:30

Our team come together for a traditional Balinese blessing to bring good luck for the event. The local culture and tradition, and the welcome provided by the people of Bali is part of what keeps bringing people back to these islands. Engaging with the long standing customs is something we take pride in and know to be an experience you will greatly enjoy.

18:00 - 19:00

Join a pre-race briefing with our race director & safety team. Needless to say we take your safety seriously and given the race involves open roads and some tides, a full understanding of the conditions and the support we have available is important.

Thursday 12 December - Race day

6:30 - 7:30

Make the most of the delicious team breakfast at Sandy Bay Beach Club before being transported to the start-line.

In 2018 we started the race from a boat and while the route is being upgraded for 2019 it is likely we will repeat our choice of start line. The route will include approximately 20km on foot and 4km of swimming.

12:30 - 13:00

Prize giving, press conference & award ceremony at Sandy Bay Beach Club. Every participant is celebrated at our finish line event with personalised medals providing a thank you for your contribution and commitment to making change happen.

13:00 - 18:00

Enjoy a pool side lunch with your team mates and reflect on your race and what you achieved together. Our content team will be sharing extensive professional photography of the entire 5-days to ensure your experience is captured and available to you.

18:00 - 22:00

We have arranged a private dinner celebration for the team at a 5* beach side villa. The connections and bonds you will have made on the 3 days will, just like the positive impact of you fund-raising, last a long time and we are keen to make sure you get a chance to celebrate in style.

Friday 13 December

08:00 - 09:00

Enjoy a final breakfast at Sandy Bay.

09:30 - 11:00

To mark the end of the event we join our community partners and team mates for a beach clean up event before departures & farewells. In 2018 our beach clean-up alone lead to great improvements for the community and we look forward to sharing this uplifting experience with you.

12:00 - 13:00

Private fast boat transport back to Bali and transfers to the airport or your next destination if you are making a longer holiday of your Bali Hope experience.

Elite athletes

The inspiration provided by the Otillo Swimrun world champion Annika Ericsson and elite triathletes Andy Wibowo and Inge Prasetyo, amongst others, brings a new level of energy to this unique and intimate endurance event. The access and time all teams have with each other creates an exceptionally supportive family atmosphere and a brilliant 5 days.

Stunning location

The small tropical islands of Lembongan and Ceningan provide a stunning backdrop to this unique swimrun event. The fact that we are fundraising to help protect the local environment from plastic pollution ensures the entire local community is behind us all the way and this adds a magical element to the event.

all inclusive luxury

We take pride in making sure our participants have the best available accommodation and hospitality and in Lembongan that means high-end villas with private pools, all inclusive access to the best beach club on the island, including all meals and drinks. As we strive through the challenge of the race and our fundraising campaign together delivering an unforgettable experience for you and our team is our primary objective.

The Race

The tropical islands of Lembongan and Ceningan present a stunning location for this unique sprint swimrun.

Crystal clear, aquamarine water, hill top views across the sea to Bali itself, our route combines 20km on foot with 3km of swimming.

Our 20 teams will traverse two islands, launch from a boat and run through the heart of the community we are helping to transform. The Bali Hope Swimrun, Southeast Asia’s first, is a challenging but accessible course, and one that in 2018 tested the Otillo World Champions and Indonesia’s leading Ironman competitors.

In 2019 we plan to again recruit a team that includes newcomers to endurance sport, experienced amateurs and leaders from the swimrun and triathlon communities,

Elevation: 250m

  • An experience you will never forget

  • Why does the event take place on multiple days?

Bali Hope events are focussed around building communities of extraordinary people from around the world. 5 days allows us time and space to connect as a group, visit the community we are supporting and celebrate our achievement.

Many of our team members will travel to Bali from Europe or North America and it is important to have time to acclimatise.

  • Can I bring a partner and/or children?

Of course. Partners and children are most welcome.  In 2018 on our ultra marathon we had 4 young people with us, including one young adult who joined our support crew. Witnessing a team of adults from around the world making change happen for a disadvantaged community can only be a positive experience for a young person.

  • Can I join the swimrun but not the rest of the week?

Unfortunately not. The integrity of our swimrun team, our shared experience and our itinerary means this is not possible.

The SwimRun

  • What is your advice if I have never joined a SwimRun before?

The route is designed to be challenging but accessible for anyone with a decent level of fitness.  We do recommend researching swimrun and the standard equipment required.

  • What level of support do you provide?

Participant safety on this ocean & road race is our key priority. With this in mind we have a highly-experienced health and safety director, emergency medical back-up, and trained first aiders in both fixed and mobile-aid stations.

  • What insurance do I need?

Participants will need travel medical insurance covering endurance sports.

  • What is your advice on fundraising?

Critical factors on successful fundraising include starting early to raise awareness of what you are doing, the impact it will make and the training commitment required, and then follow this up with personal messages to friends, family and your broader network.

We believe US$1,000 is very achievable and together we can make a real impact in helping to educate a new generation on this island and help the community to develop a recycling infrastructure that will protect their island.

Our charity partner also provides each team with personal support on their fundraising campaign.
